Teatro en Vilo


The directors and playwrights Noemi Rodríguez and Andrea Jiménez are Teatro En Vilo, in 2012 they founded the company in London that currently functions as a platform for international and interdisciplinary collaborations between scene creators, artists and researchers from countries around the world. The company pursues a constant dialogue with its social, political and personal environment, which forces it to constantly renew its stage language. Through its shows and formations, the company seeks to position itself on the fine line that separates theater from life and fiction from reality. Combining the improvised and the choreographic, the grotesque and the autobiographical, absurd humor and gestural comedy, tenderness and irreverence, Teatro En Vilo has embarked on the exciting adventure of trying to unravel the time in which we live.
Since its creation Teatro En Vilo has visited numerous European cities and toured a large part of Spanish territory with its shows. During its travels, the company has had the opportunity to step on the stages of prestigious theaters and festivals such as the National Dramatic Center, the Canal Theatres, the Conde Duque Cultural Center, the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the BE Festival, the Buffer Fringe or the Mimetic Festival London. The company has also received numerous national and international awards, including the 2019 Ojo Crítico de Teatro Award, "Jury Award" and the "Public Award" at the Presente - Futuro Festival in Palermo, “Best Emerging Company” at the Mimetic Festival or the candidacy for Best New Author at the XIX and XXII Max Awards for Interrupted and Generación Why, respectively. And the nominations for the Max XVIII Awards for Best Show and Best Author for Man Up.
It is also worth noting the collaboration of important cultural institutions in the production of their shows such as the Lavoir Moderne Parisien, the Arts Council, the National Dramatic Center, La Caixa Foundation or the Teatro Circo Price, as well as the educational work carried out through their courses at cultural centers and universities such as the University of Oxford, the University of Bologna, the Universities of Puna and Calcutta, the National Dramatic Center or the School of Performing Arts at Girne American University (GAU).

Andrea is the co-artistic director of Teatro EnVilo, a London-based theater company founded in 2012. This theater artist, who divides her time between Madrid and London, holds a law degree and a postgraduate degree in Performing Arts from the London International School of Performing Arts.She has worked as a director and actress for renowned theater companies in France, Spain, and England.She also has extensive experience in producing shows and festivals, and in developing educational projects that incorporate theater into various educational institutions and professional groups.

She has directed shows for international companies such as Hispanic Breakdown (“The Copla Musical”) and Fun in the Oven (“Canary Girls”).She is also the co-director, along with Noemi Rodríguez, of the multi-award-winning play “Interrupted,” winner of the 2013 Talent Madrid Award and recently nominated for the 2016 Max Award for Best New Playwright.

As an actress, she has worked with renowned companies such as Blind Summit, Improbable Co., English National Opera (London), Glass-Eye Theatre (London), and Mimox Teatro (Madrid).

In the world of production, she has collaborated with the Botín Foundation and the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), with the Talent Festival at the Teatros del Canal, and with the acclaimed British circus company Gandini Jugling.She has also led and directed workshops and labs on collective creation, clowning, and physical theatre in Madrid, London, Paris, Mumbai, Bologna, Kerala, and Auroville.
A graduate in Textual Interpretation from the ESAD of Galicia, where she received top honors for her final project, she completed a Master's degree in Performing Arts at the University of Vigo and a postgraduate course at the London International School of Performing Arts thanks to the prestigious Barrié Foundation scholarship.As an actress and director, she has worked in film, theater, and television.In theater and dance, she has participated in projects carried out by prestigious institutions such as the Galician Drama Center, the Núcleo de Experimentação Coreográfica do Porto, the English National Opera, and the Spoleto Festival in the USA.Her film and television work includes roles as an actress and reporter on the TVG program Land Rober and her participation in the film A Esmorga, which was nominated for a Goya Award in 2015 for Best Adapted Screenplay.She has also taught courses and given lectures on Acting, Theatrical Creation, Collective Creation, and Movement at various universities, festivals, and theater schools in the United Kingdom, the United States, Italy, India, and Spain.In addition to essays, Noemi is the author of four plays, which have been widely performed in Europe.In 2015, she received a Max Award nomination for Best New Playwright for her play "Interrupted."She is currently the co-artistic director of Teatro EnVilo and continues to collaborate with European artists and theater companies.

El premio El Ojo Crítico de RNE de Teatro 2019 ha recaído en la compañía Teatro en Vilo. El fallo del jurado hecho público este miércoles ha destacado su “apuesta por nuevos lenguajes artísticos” y su “valentía”. El galardón de teatro es el primero que se da a conocer de la XXX edición de los premios para jóvenes talentos de RNE. El jurado valora “su decidida apuesta por nuevos lenguajes artísticos; por albergar voces de otros colectivos en sus propuestas; por su valentía; y por la sinceridad y elocuencia de su poética escénica”.

Han compuesto el jurado Ernesto Caballero, dramaturgo, director y gestor, director del CDN hasta enero de 2020; Alberto Conejero, dramaturgo; Andrés Lima, actor y director, recién galardonado con el Premio Nacional de Teatro; Lucía Miranda, directora y dramaturga. Premio de Teatro 2018; María Morales, actriz; Daniel Galindo, director de La sala de RNE; Alberto Martínez Arias, director de El ojo crítico y Berta Tapia Zamora, responsable del Área de Cultura de los Servicios Informativos de RNE.

Los galardones El Ojo Crítico fueron creados por el programa cultural de Radio Nacional hace 30 años y son uno de los mejores apoyos para la promoción de jóvenes talentos que comienzan sus carreras. También premian una trayectoria y el valor de una carrera profesional.

Teatro en Vilo es una compañía internacional de teatro afincada en Madrid, fue fundada en Londres en 2013 y está capitaneada por Noemí Rodríguez y Andrea Jiménez, ambas directoras y dramaturgas. Funciona como un colectivo itinerante que sirve como plataforma para colaboraciones internacionales e interdisciplinares entre creadores de escena, artistas e investigadores de todo el mundo. Según la compañía, Teatro en Vilo “persigue un constante diálogo con su entorno social, político y personal, lo que le obliga a renovar constantemente su lenguaje escénico. Desde sus espectáculos y formaciones busca situarse en la delgada línea que separa el teatro de la vida y la ficción de la realidad. Combinando lo improvisado y lo coreográfico, lo grotesco y lo autobiográfico, el humor absurdo y la comedia gestual, la ternura y la irreverencia, se ha lanzado a la apasionante aventura de intentar desentrañar el tiempo en que vivimos”.
Desde su creación ha visitado numerosas ciudades europeas y gran parte del territorio español. Cuenta con numerosos galardones, entre ellos el Premio del Jurado y el Premio del Público en el Festival Presente-Futuro en Palermo, Mejor Compañía Emergente en el Mimetic Festival, Primer Premio y Premio del Público en la I Feria Ibérica de Fundao (Portugal), o las candidaturas a Mejor Autoría Revelación en los XIX y XXII Premios Max.
