“EL GATO” BY PABLO VERGNE RETURNS ON THE 25TH ANNIVERSARY OF TEATRALIA

The Spotted Cat and the Swallow Sinhá is a suggestive version for puppet theater based on the homonymous story by the Brazilian writer Jorge Amado. In 2000, the piece won the First Prize of the awards that Teatralia gave in that edition. On its 25th anniversary, the festival wants to recover this emblematic work by the Madrid company El Retablo, a show about friendship and tolerance that has been presented in theaters in Spain, France, Italy, Portugal, Switzerland and Brazil.

It is shown on March 14 in Cuarta Pared, Madrid. On stage, two performers tell and dramatize the story of a selfish and lonely cat and a cheerful and curious swallow. Dolls, traditional and handcrafted toys, animated objects, puppets made with recycled material, shadows and other everyday utensils bring the public closer to a tender story about the transformative power of love.

El Retablo has sought, since its founding in 1986, "simplicity and clarity to approach child psychology, capturing with humor and delicacy the way in which children see and feel the world around them." Directed by Pablo Vergne, the company is a benchmark in performing arts for children and young people. In this edition of the TEATRALIA festival, he also presents the show Kalek.
