CHRISTMAS IN THE MAGICAL FOREST OF ALCORCÓN

The Department of Culture of the Alcorcón City Council gave us the immense pleasure of creating "The Magical Christmas Forest of Alcorcón", a Christmas cycle for all audiences that Proversus has created exclusively and for the first time for the hall of the Buero Theater Vallejo de Alcorcón, and that from December 23 to January 4 became a magical space where to live Christmas with the family. And it is that the magic of Christmas is capable of transforming the Buero Vallejo Municipal Arts Center into a magical forest where anything can happen. Puppets, storytelling, dance, music, participatory workshops... A giant tree gave shelter to all kinds of beings and invited us to dream with music, dance, theater and different magical characters. More than forty activities integrated into this environment that gave it life and made it real. A careful atmosphere to introduce our spectators to a colorful, cheerful, familiar and endearing Christmas atmosphere. There, several paths could be followed that will lead to other magical spaces:

Santa's Factory

In which Santa Claus was working with his elves, preparing gifts for the little ones. There we found a chest in which the children of Alcorcón were able to leave their letter requesting gifts. This installation was moved by automata puppets.

The Magic Room

The night before Santa Claus or the Three Wise Men comes is a magical night in which children refuse to sleep and where many incredible things happen. Another of our spaces was a children's room with the child who occupies it in his bed sleeping while his toys are magically activated while he rests.

With different techniques of puppets and automatons, we created another magical place in which the girls and boys of Alcorcón were able to see their desires reflected, their illusion the night before the big day when their gifts arrive, and like at night, while they sleep, everything comes to life.

Construction Workshops

Every day there was a participatory manual workshop for girls, boys and the whole family where puppets or animated objects could be built every day from recycled materials, as well as other types of activities, taught by different teachers specialized in fine arts and performing arts.

Performing Arts Programming

From morning to late afternoon, a wide range of shows were offered by some of the most interesting performing arts companies in our country.

Music accompanied us throughout Christmas, generating sensations and emotions, hand in hand with two groups with two very different but complementary styles that represent two ways of living Christmas, one more traditional and the other more festive. The beautiful concert "With spoons and pestles" took us back to Christmas at the time of our grandparents and great-grandparents, and the fun concert of rock carols and popular songs closed the closing party.

The project was designed and coordinated by Isis Abellán and Elena Muñoz with the constant collaboration of the Culture staff of the Alcorcón City Council. We want to especially thank Sonia López Cedena, Councilor for Culture, and her right hand, Cristina Ramírez, for contributing to the project her great experience as cultural managers and her enormous artistic knowledge. Also to Fernando Cuadrado, production manager, for making everything so easy. Many personnel involved in culture, firefighters, cleaning, administration, concierge, etc... whom we thank for their effort and good nature at all times.

The design and execution of the unconventional stage space for the theater hall was by La Tartana Teatro, led by Juan Muños and Inés Maroto. They also created precious theatrical installations: the Santa Claus Factory and the Child's Room on the night before the delivery of His Majesties' gifts.

We were able to count on an exquisite program of puppets, storytelling, construction workshops, dance, concerts, and many surprises, by Proversus, with an inauguration by Aracaladanza and a program with some of the most interesting artists on our national scene.

Our magical forest has left us wonderful experiences. We are very satisfied because we managed to create a space of true happiness and well-being at Christmas, offering an original and beautiful cultural proposal, as opposed to the noisy stress that sometimes occurs on these very important dates. We had more than 9,000 visitors in 8 days of these two Christmas weeks and the satisfaction of seeing the public and our artists enjoy themselves.
